Customers frequently highlight the store’s well-stocked shelves filled with essential and specialty Japanese items such as noodles, mochi, spices, and homemade rice balls. While the store is noted for its strong community feel and unique finds, some shoppers mention the higher price point and occasional challenges with parking nearby, particularly on weekends. Overall, Hana Market is valued as an indispensable spot for those seeking genuine Japanese groceries in a convenient and welcoming setting.
Great little store. A little expensive but totally worth it to have something like this in DC proper. They’re well stocked with all the essentials and have some delicious onigiri too (but NOT on Mondays and Tuesdays - made that mistake more than once).
Inside an 1875 corner rowhouse in Dupont Circle is Hana Japanese Market, an immigrant-owned Japanese market that sells homemade omusubi (rice balls) every day. Run by a wife-husband team, products like noodles, mochi, and curries overcrowd shelves along small aisles. It adds to the atmosphere of a beloved neighborhood market with loyal customers. And they sell cold Royal Milk Tea, my vice.
Ok, I have to give a 5 star. I was watching the tv show 居酒屋新干线 and the episode was about the guy went to Hachinohe City and was introduced to local delicacy special sauted squid ....guess what... I found it in Hana market the second day!
A great one stop shop for so many quality Japanese products here. One small drawback is: not too easy to find a parking space nearby, especially on the weekends.
Best Japanese market in DC with authentic offerings imported directly from Japan — spices, sweets, produce, fish, and more. A necessary stop for anyone on the hunt for quality ingredients for Japanese dishes!
Wonderful gem of DC! Owners are incredibly kind and brought a smile to my face. Very reasonable prices. Personal favorite are the homemade onigiri (3/each)!

Love this place. It's tiny, but you can find most items that you need at a reasonable price. I love the onigiri that Hana prepares and sells. The staff are very helpful and will really try to understand you.
